Drea came to Lucky K9 Rescue in October 2017 when she and 4 other Rottweilers were rescued from a mass breeding operation and were in preparation to be auctioned off, along with 100s of other dogs. Drea was one of four females rescued at about age three years old, and she had already spent her entire 3 years breeding litter after litter. She was going to be placed on the auction block where she would be auctioned off to the highest bidder, who would bring her back to their farm, and she would continue her life as a breeding vessel. Thankfully, Lucky K9 Rescue volunteers were able to intervene and rescue some of the dogs. Drea was the absolute most shut down of the dogs that were rescued. The life and conditions that these dames/moms and sires/dad’s live in is horrific. They are undersocialized and do not get near the medical care needed. As a result of the lack of socialization and harsh treatment, the dogs are often mentally and emotionally unsound. They are forced to have litter after litter and this is their only purpose in life. This is all Drea knew before Lucky K9 Rescue. Due to Drea's severe emotional and mental trauma, she is not considered readily adoptable. Thankfully, an understanding family that is capable of managing Drea's behaviors and needs stepped forward and she has been with her "forever foster" family for over a year. It has been a long road for Drea, for example, it took her FIVE MONTHS to trust her foster mom enough to take a treat from her hand. She is continuing to come out of her shell still, even after being with us for over a year. She is still terrified of most people but loves her canine siblings. She is bonding with her foster parents more every day, and she seems to have a fondness of her foster mom, especially. We are grateful to her foster family for the time and energy they have put into helping Drea rehabilitate so she can know a happy and healthy life that she deserves
